How do I play online?
Create an account, then open the app, sign in, and tap "Play Online." You can create a game and share the join code with a friend, or join a game using a code someone shared with you.
What are the rules?
The rules are simple to learn but the strategy runs deep. The app has a built-in tutorial that walks you through everything — just tap "Tutorial" from the main menu. You'll be playing in minutes.
How long do I have to make a move?
There's no time pressure until someone moves. Once your opponent submits their move, you have 24 hours to respond. If neither player moves, the game waits — no penalty.
Can I play on multiple devices?
Yes! Sign in with the same account on any device. Your games, ratings, and preferences stay in sync.
I forgot my password
Tap "Forgot password?" on the login screen in the app. You'll receive an email with a link to reset your password.
How does the rating system work?
What the Shell uses the Elo rating system — the same system used to rank chess players worldwide. You start at 1200. Your rating adjusts based on the outcome and your opponent's rating — beating a stronger player earns more points.
